What’s better than experiencing the northern lights in Swedish Lapland? Doing it while driving a snowmobile, of course!

Sure, the northern lights are unpredictable and never guaranteed, but that’s no reason not to have an unforgettable adventure while searching for them! Join us on one of our most popular tours as we explore the snow-covered forests and the Torne River under the vast Arctic night sky. Along the way, your guide will share fascinating insights about the surrounding nature, wildlife, and how life adapts to the extreme winter conditions.

To top it all off, you’ll warm up with a hot dinner in a traditional “kåta,” prepared over an open fire by your guide!

What’s included

– Guide (+ instructions on how to drive the snowmobiles)
– Guiding highlighting the area’s nature, wildlife, culture, and northern lights

– Helmet, warm overalls, and boots
– Approx. 15-30km of driving

Itinerary

1. Arrival at the meeting point
2. Selection of overalls and boots
3. Transfer to the snowmobile garage
4. Safety instructions for driving the snowmobiles and selection of helmets
5. Test drive around a practice track
6. Driving. Stops will be made for information about the surrounding nature and culture, northern lights (Aurora Borealis) as well as safety and temperature checks. Alternation of drivers for shared snowmobiles will be made for those who wish
7. Dinner prepared over an open fire while the guide provides more information about the surroundings, and of course checks for signs of northern lights in the sky!
8. Driving
9. Back at snowmobile garage for return of helmets
10. Transfer back to Kiruna for return of the overalls and boots

Check-in details

Standard meeting time for snowmobile tours is 30 minutes before the official starting time. For other tours, the meeting time is 20 minutes before the official starting time.

For bookings with pickup/drop-offs your meeting time is likely to differ from the standard. Please note that your pickup time might vary slightly depending on the number of pickups your guide has for your specific tour.

Special requirements

Driving experience
– Valid driver’s license (for cars; license for snowmobiles is not required) to drive the snowmobiles.
– No prior experience driving snowmobiles is required.

Age requirements
– Minimum 18 years of age to drive the snowmobiles.
– Minimum 3 years of age to partake in the tour.

Children
– Children under the age of 13 sit in a sled pulled by the guide.
– Children under the age of 5 require an adult to sit in the sled with them.

Alcohol Policy & Driving Requirements
Consumption of alcohol before or during the tour is strictly prohibited. Participants who are intoxicated or display unsafe behavior may be prohibited from driving or continuing the activity.

Liability for Damages
In the event of a collision caused by the participant that results in damage to a snowmobile, a fee of up to 8,000 SEK may be charged.

Extras

Single driver
Standard price per person is for two people sharing a snowmobile. If you wish to drive your own snowmobile, please choose the “Single Driving Adult” option.

Sled
Should you prefer to sit in a sled driven by the guide, please choose the “Adult in sled” option.

If you wish to make any of these alterations after a booking is made, please contact us. Last minute requests might not always be possible to accommodate.

lights/midnight sun not being visible on your tour.

If we determine that tours are unsafe to run due to current weather conditions (e.g., storms or very low temperatures), changes may happen with very short notice.

For safety reasons, should temperatures reach -35°C and below, changes including but not limited to the following might be made to your tour(s); shorter driving distances, more stops, lower speeds, and/or changed routes. Should you no longer wish to partake in the tour because of this, you may change your tour to a different one, according to availability. If an alternative tour is not a viable option for you, we will refund the total amount of the tour.
